31 Days, Day 2 – Learning to Let Go

This may look like a great memory, but actually isn’t.

It’s a short story about an old acquaintance with whom I don’t keep in touch anymore. Oh well, I guess that’s life.

I met him online through a mutual friend and we started talking. We would talk for hours and days but never meet. There was always something coming up and the plans would always get cancelled. After some time I let it go. It’s not my style to hinge on someone, may be also because I’m not that a patient person. But I do think that if something or someone really is a priority, you find the time and you respect your word. Now, I’m not fussy and I do have a certain comprehension towards people, but when things repeat themselves over and over again, that just means to me that that person doesn’t want to make any effort to change a thing.

Anyways, after several attempts to meet that have failed, I just felt it was the time to let it go and just leave him be. At that time, he was working for a fashion store and since I’m this fashion addict, he promised he had a present for me. When I decided to stop talking to him, I also forgot about the present.

Years have passed, and he contacts me again, comes up with the idea to meet and to also (finally) give me the present. But I was reluctant, I already knew that I couldn’t trust him. Still, I accepted to meet one day and there he was. He showed up, carrying this big thing – the fashion picture.

It was nice, we went for a walk in the park and got to talking. We spent a few hours and that was the only time I saw him. Yep, never saw him again after that, even though when we left eachother, we promised we would meet again soon. We tried to keep in touch, but he started acting just like many years ago. So I just left, again. Maybe it’s me or maybe it’s him, but I do know that I don’t like to waste my time trying to make things happen, especially while I’m open and flexible and  don’t receive the same back. And I also hate it when history repeats itself.

So now, all I’ve got is this picture that I can’t wait to hang in my new apartment, along with the friendship quote and the ‘Peter Pan’ signature. It does make me sad that what he wrote there didn’t come true…

But oh well, life goes on and the best thing to do is to let things go when they are out of our control, just find the right people to concentrate our time and energy on. At least that’s what life has taught me in its 22 years.

On a positive note, they say that when a person walks out of your life, they leave the place for someone else to come 🙂 And I like to think that, yes.
